I've just download Maya personal learning edition, to find that i don't have a "Modelling" mode, making it impossible for me to do such things as "edit polygons"

Now i'm completely new to this, maybe there's another way for me to get into modelling mode, but it does not appear in the dropdown menu in my left hand corner, and i can't find "edit polygons" anywhere.

is there anything i can do?

i'm re-downloading it now.
